HistoryWecock Community Association was formed in 1977 and has been serving the needs of the local community ever since. The association is run by a team of trustees with a broad range of skills and experiences, who are all unpaid volunteers wanting to support the local community. The centre has a number of paid staff to support the volunteers and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the centre.
We were fortunate enough to have a new centre built and equipped as part of the area’s regeneration project in 2004. HeartWe are a Community Centre. A Centre for the Community. On a superficial level we hire rooms, run a cafe, laundrette and charity shop. Our passion, however, goes much deeper. We want to see our community filled with people who are able to leave the hurts and damage of the past behind and lead lives full of hope and confidence.
We want to see the young people of our community maximising their potential both in and out of school; having a voice and excitement for their future. Our Welcome, Safe, Valued motto was developed by our young people for their Youth Cafe and we then adopted it for the Centre as a whole, wanting everyone who comes through the doors to feel Welcome, Safe and Valued. The flip side of this is that we are the ones to give that welcome to people who come in, whether visitors for their first time or someone who comes regularly to do their laundry and have a cuppa. Community WellbeingOver the recent years we have become increasingly aware of the mental health needs of our community. The Billy's Lake project welcomes people to come out into the woods, get some exercise, meet new people, learn new skills. Our volunteering program draws in members of the community who have perhaps needed time out from the work place and need to regain confidence to return, or are wanting to make the transition from education to employment.

More recently we have been impacted by the mental health needs of our community and we decided to do something about it. We golfed, we ran, we gathered funding and raised the money to fund our own mental health worker. More...
